Ansari? stresses on effective use of public audit for enhancing governance

The Vice President Dr. M. Hamid Ansari has stressed on the effective use of public audit as an aid in enhancing governance and improving accountability. <br/><br/>Inaugurating the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the National Academy of Audit and Accounts in Shimla on Tuesday, he said in complex economic arrangements of today, the public debt management and provision of subsidies should be subject to public audit due to their significant impact on government budgets and burden of future generations. <br/><br/>Supporting the point made by the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherji at the 25th conference of Accountants Generals last month, Dr. Ansari sought the focus of public audit on containing expenditure on subsidies without adversely affecting the targeted beneficiaries of such subsidies. He lauded the activities of academy for making significant contribution to practises of good governance in the country. Governor of Himachal Pradesh Smt. Urmila Singh, Chief minister Mr. Prem Kumar Dhumal and auditor general and comptroller of India Sh. VinodR were also present at the function.
