Government is providing annual maintenance grant to keep the existing schools in good condition under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, SSA.

In a written reply in Rajya Sabha today, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal informed that the maintenance grant is provided at the rate of five thousand rupees per school with three class rooms and ten throusand rupees for schools with more than three class rooms.

He said SSA provides support for a variety of interventions for universalisation of access and retention in elementary education, bridging gender and social category gaps in enrollement, and improving the quality of education
