Anil Kumar Sinha appointed as new CBI Director

Senior IPS officer Anil Kumar Sinha has been appointed as the new Director of CBI. He will succeed Ranjit Sinha, who retired as CBI Director yesterday. Anil Sinha, a 1979 batch IPS officer of Bihar cadrde, was the Special Director in the CBI. Before joining the CBI, he served as Additional Secretary, Central Vigilance Commission in New Delhi. An official notification said last night that the term of Mr Sinha will be for two years from the date he takes charge.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had cleared the name of Mr. Anil Kumar Sinha. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India HL Dattu and the Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, whose party is second largest party in the Lok sabha. Last week, Parliament cleared a change in rules to allow the largest opposition party to participate in the selection process even if it does not qualify for the post of Leader of Opposition.
