Anganwadis across country to be restructured

Anganwadis across the country are to be restructured in a mission mode. The Minister for Women and Child Development, Mrs. Krishna Tirath said in the Rajya Sabha today that more Anganwadi Bhavans will be built. MPs have been requested to set aside some contribution from their local area development fund, MPLADS, for this purpose. The state governments have also been approached to lend a helping hand in constructing Anganwadi Bhawans. She said special attention will be given to pregnant and lactating mothers. In reply to members' demand for better treatment to Anganwadi workers, Mrs. Tirath said that in the budget for 2011-12 their honorarium has been increased to three thousand rupees per month from 15 hundred rupees at present. Likewise, the wages of Anganwadi helpers has also been raised to 15 hundred rupees per month from 750 rupees at present. This will be effective from next month.
