Anganwadi workers protest, demands payment of minimum wages

More than 20,000 anganwadi workers and helpers from over 20 states today staged a protest at Jantar Mantar. <br/><br/>The protestors demanded payment of minimum wages, social security benefits including gratuity and pension to all anganwadi workers and helpers and recognition of these workers and helpers as Grade 3 and Grade 4 government employees. <br/><br/>The protest was organised by Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU). <br/><br/>Talking to AIR, General Secretary of All India Federation of Angandwadi Workers and helpers and CITU Secretary, Mrs Hemalata said that they will put forth their demands to the Prime Minister.<br/>
