Andhra to ask for CBI enquiry in illegal mining

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to recommend a CBI inquiry into alleged illegal mining activities in Anantapur district. <br/>Opposition parties in the state the Telugu Desam Party, CPI, CPM, Lok Satta and Praja Rajyam Party have been demanding that the government order a CBI probe into the illegal mining by Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) owned by Karnataka Tourism<br/>Minister Gali Janardhana Reddy.<br/>Congress MPs – V Hanumantha Rao and Madhu Yashki also favoured a CBI probe to bring out facts in the case . The state government has already set up three different committees comprising officials of mining, forest and industries departments to inquire into the allegations.<br/>Karnataka Tourism Minister and mining magnate Janardhan Reddy has welcomed the recommendation of Andhra Pradesh government to hand over illegal mining cases to the CBI. In a press conference in Bangalore today, Janardhan Reddy has however alleged that it is a politically motivated move by the Andhra Pradesh government on the intervention of Telugu Desam leader Chandrababu Naidu. Welcoming the recommendation, Janardhan Reddy said they have nothing to fear as all their mining activities are transparent and legal. The Obalapuram and Ananthpur mining corporations owned by Janardhan Reddy and his brother Karunakara Reddy have mining lease in Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh border. The Opposition parties in both Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have been demanding action against them for violating mining laws.<br/>
