The Andhra-Odisha Border State Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoists) today claimed abduction of Malkangiri district magistrate and collector R Veenyl Krishna. In a letter written in Telugu to media, the Secretary and spokesman of the Committee, Bhaskar, today, said the district magistrate and collector was abducted as the Odisha Government tried to prevent the meetings of Malkangiri and Koraput tribals last year. He also placed five demands before the Odisha Government in lieu of freeing Krishna. He demanded immediate halt of Operation Green Hunt, freeing of jailed Maoists in Odisha, stop movement of Special operation group, BSF, CRPF and Grey Hound personnel in their movement areas, cancellation of all mining MoUs signed by the Odisha Government with different companies and adequate compensation to the familes of Maoist associates T Gangulu and Sirika who died in Koraput jail when they were under-trial. They also demanded a judicial inquiry to their under-trial death. However, nothing has been mentioned about the 48-hour deadline given by Maoists which is coming to an end this evening.Meanwhile, the Odisha Government has convened a high-level meeting at State Secretariat at Bhubaneswar to discuss and chalk-out strategies to free abducted Malkangiri district magistrate and collector R Veenyl Krishna from Maoists. Odisha Chief Secretary B K Patnaik, Home Secretary U N Behera, Police DG Manmohan Praharaj and other senior officials are attending the meeting. They will discuss the present situation in Malkangiri. They will also deliberate on the demands put by the Maoists to free Krishna and person who can negotiate between the Government and the Maoists.
