In Andhra Pradesh, union Home Minister Chidambaram’s statement on initiating process for formation of Telangana state has drawn flak from the main Opposition Telugu Desam Party. TDP president Chandrababu Naidu came down heavily against the centre stating it was unilateral and unmindful to announce with out having any proper discussion on the issue. Stating that Congress party should own the responsibility for the panic reaction that is seen in all political parties and among the public. Naidu said MLAs of other regions are submitting resignations coming under pressure from their respective areas.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, Chief Minister K Rosaiah said that the resolution would be passed in Assembly only when majority people agreed for the same. He also said the Telangana issue would be discussed with the members from all regions.<br/><br/>The number of MLAs who are tendering their resignations is growing in all political parties. 92 MLAs across party lines have tendered their resignation papers to the Speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy, 13 Praja Rajyam Party members also have given their resignation papers to their party President. Above 40 MLAs from the ruling Congress party also have expressed their desire to tender resignations.<br/><br/>On the other hand, protesting the decision on initiating process for formation of Telangana state, demonstrations are being held at several other places in the coastal Andhra Pradesh and Raylaseema regions.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, Home Minister P Chidambaram has invited TRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao to come to Delhi to discuss next step for Telangana statehood.<br/><br/>Home Minister P Chidambaram has said that the process to form the state of Telangana will be initiated. Speaking to media in New Delhi late last night, Mr Chidambaram said an appropriate resolution will be moved in Andhra Pradesh assembly for carving out the state of Telangana.<br/><br/>Telangana Rastra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhara Rao broke his 11 day hunger strike last night after the Centre announced this decision. A frail-looking Rao thanked the Prime Minister, the Congress President, Leader of the Opposition and all other political parties for supporting the cause of Telangana statehood.<br/><br/>Earlier, responding to the 11-day long hunger strike by Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao and street protests across the Telangana region demanding a separate state, top Congress leaders including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi had held a series of meetings through the day to resolve the issue.<br/><br/>After witnessing turmoil for two consecutive days over the Telangana issue, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly had a smooth start today. In the wake of the Centre's announcement last night to initiate the process for the formation of a separate Telangana state, the TRS members, who did not allow the House to transact any business in the last two days, shook hands with MLAs cutting across party lines as the House began.<br/><br/>Pro-Telangana members from other parties also expressed happiness over the Centre conceding to the decades- old demand for statehood to the underdeveloped region comprising 10 districts. There is no official word immediately on when the resolution for separate Telangana would be introduced in the Assembly as announced by Union Home Minister last night.<br/><br/>Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao today said that members from Telangana will seek to make Hyderabad the capital of the proposed state. Talking to reporters outside the Parliament, Mr Rao said that a bill for creation of Telangana is likely to be passed in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly today.<br/><br/>The Centre last night announced the process of formation of the Telangana state. Meanwhile the Centre has asked the Andhra Pradesh government to withdraw cases filed since November 29th against students, leaders and those associated with the agitation of the separate state. In Andhra Pradesh, two senior Congress MLAs and former ministers J C Diwakar Reddy and D L Ravindra Reddy today resigned in protest against the party’s decision to carve out a separate state of Telangana. While Diwakar Reddy represents Tadipatri Assembly constituency in the backward Anantapur district, Ravindra Reddy is from Mydukuru in Kadapa district of Rayalaseema. Both were strong proponents of a unified state.<br/><br/>Congress sources said many more MLAs from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema have said they would resign ahead of the proposed resolution in the Assembly seeking creation of Telangana state.<br/><br/>Earlier an undeclared curfew like situation prevailed near Andhra Assembly building even as celebrations broke out at several places in Hyderabad after the centre assured for initiating the process to form separate Telanagana state. The assembly proceedings which the TRS members had been stalling for the past two days began as usual this morning with out any disruptions.<br/><br/>While, the BJP today urged the centre to come up with a roadmap for carving out the proposed state of Telangana. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, BJP spokesperson Mr. Venkaiah Naidu alleged that the ruling Congress party has not even taken its own members in confidence. When asked about the status of Hyderabad being included in Telangana, he evaded a direct reply and said that the decision is for the government to take. Replying to a question on the party’s stand on the demand of smaller states in some other parts of the country, Mr. Naidu said that the party will consider it on case to case basis.
