Andhra Govt. opposes introduction of BT Brinjal

Andhra Pradesh Government has opposed the introduction of BT Brinjal for commercial cultivation without holding scientific studies. Chief Minister K Rosaiah has written a letter to the Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh two days ago seeking the centre to postpone the decision on BT Brinjal till its effects on Human Being and cattle was known beyond all apprehensions. Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad today, state Agriculture Minister Raghuveera Reddy said the state government was not against introduction of any new technology as it had done in case of BT cotton successfully. Stating that over 5 lakh MTs of brinjal produced every year in about 30,000 hectares in the state, the Minister has said the state Government requested the centre to take up scientific studies through the Agriculture Universities under the direct supervision of the Government.
