Andhra Pradesh state Government on Tuesday launched one rupee a kilo rice scheme in the state. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has launched the scheme at a special programme held in Hyderabad on the occasion of the 56th State Formation Day. About 2.26 crore Below Poverty Line families in the state will get benefit due the new initiative of the state Government. The state government is so far supplying rice at a cost of two rupees a kilo through Public Distribution System and the same will now be provided at one rupee a kilo benefitting about 7.5 crore people. With the new initiative, the subsidy burden over the state Government will go up by 600 crore rupees to a total of 2600 crore rupees. The Chief Minister also announced several welfare measures benefitting farmers, youth and weaker sections of the society on the eve of the formation day.
