Andhra Assembly & Council begins under tight security

The winter session of Andhra Pradesh state Legislative Assembly and Council is commencing this morning amidst tight security. The sessions will start with both Houses of Legislature paying homage to former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who died in a helicopter crash. Telangana Rastra Samithi President Chandrasekhara Rao’s fast unto death, the 48-hour long bandh called by the TRS are likely to dominate the proceedings.<br/><br/>The government is expected to move a resolution in the House against declaration of Hyderabad as a free zone tomorrow even as the TRS is likely to utilise the session for stepping up its demand for a unanimous resolution seeking statehood for Telangana. The other major parties, including the TDP, Praja Rajyam and the CPI have announced their support to the resolution on separate Telangana if the ruling party was willing to move it.<br/>The Obulapuram Iron Ore mining, recent floods in river Krishna, drought conditions and price rise are likely among the issues that will come up for discussion during the 13-day long session.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent M.S. akshmi reports from Hyderabad that the winter session of the state Legislative Assembly and Council is beginning today amidst tight security. A security blanket was thrown over Hyderabad especially around the Assembly premises to prevent agitators to reach Assembly.
