The Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee today said that then Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Arjun Singh had decided to send former Union Carbide Corporation CEO Warren Anderson out of Bhopal in view of the deteriorating law and order situation after the gas tragedy in 1984. Speaking to reporters in Kolkatta Mr. Mukherjee quoted Arjun Singh's statement on Dec 8, 1984, five days after the gas leak.<br/><br/>On the question of extraditing Anderson, he said that center will explore the possibility of extradition. Reacting to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's statement, CPI(M) leader Mrs. Brinda Karat has said that Anderson should have been jailed instead. She termed newly formed GoM is totally meaningless and urged the government to come clean on the issue. Our correspondent reports that the opposition has been pressing the government to reveal with who had allowed Anderson's exit, ruling congress leaders had been urging Arjun Singh to speak out on the controversy.<br/><br/>Today, it was today the turn of former Union Minister Arun Nehru, a close aide of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He asserted Arjun Singh as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister had taken the decision to release then Union Carbide Chief and made it clear that Rajiv Gandhi had no role in it. Earlier senior congress leaders Satyavrat Chaturvedi ,Digvijay Singh and R K Dhawan had echoed similar sentiments.<br/> <br/>In the opposition camp Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was joined by the CPIM leader Brinda Karat urging the government to come clean on the controversy. They also called upon the congress chief to break her silence on the issue. With GOM in place and United States ready to consider India's fresh plea of Anderson's extradition, it is hoped that all issues shrouding the tragedy will come to the fore, reports AIR correspondent Prem Kukreti, Vijay Raina.
