Anant Kumar describes just concluded monsoon session of Parliament as highly successful

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anant Kumar today described the just concluded monsoon session of Parliament as highly successful. Addressing the media in New Delhi, he said the Lok Sabha registered a productivity of almost 110 per cent and the Rajya Sabha over 99 per cent. This is a record performance in many years. Mr Anant Kumar said both the Houses cleared 13 legislations.

But the landmark was the passage of the Goods and Services Tax, GST, Bill which was unanimously approved by the two Houses. He attributed this success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi whose initiative succeeded in evolving an all-party consensus. But for his efforts this historic tax reforms bill would not have been realised. The Minister announced that Assam is the first State to ratify the legislation which will come in force after 15 more State Assemblies approve it.

He also emphasized that both Houses unanimously passed a resolution calling for harmony in Jammu and Kashmir and national unity. Parliament also discussed the atrocities faced by the Dalits and resolved to give them full security, he said.
