Gujarat Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel will be the new Chief Minister of Gujarat. She will succeed Narendra Modi who resigned as the state Chief Minister to become the next Prime Minister of the country.
BJP’s state legislative party meeting held in Gandhinagar this evening unanimously elected Anandiben Patel as its leader. State Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama has proposed the name of Mrs.Anandiben Patel as the leader of BJP legislative party, which was seconded by other ministers and senior party leaders.
Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi who had also was present on the occasion. Narendra Modi's close aide Amit Shah and BJP General Secretary and party observer Thavar Chand Ghelot were also present.
AIR correspondent reports that 73-year-old Mrs. Anandiben Patel will be the first woman Chief Minister of Gujarat. A school teacher by profession, Mrs. Anandiben Patel is looking after Revenue, Urban Development and Education in the present Government.
She was also a minister in earlier Keshubhai Patel Government in the state. She will take oath of office tomorrow at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. Some new members of her council of ministers will also take oath simultaneously.
