A&N Islands: First day of weekly lockdown begins today

<span style="color: #222222;">The first day of weekly lockdown by the Andaman and Nicobar administration begins today. Till afternoon the roads looked completely emptied and the local market turned barren in Port Blair. The citizens also restricted themselves up to their homes.<br />'' <br />'' The police department has made arrangements to implement the lockdown through proper barricading. Same response has been observed in Diglipur and Mayabunder in North and Middle Andaman.<br />'' <br />'' Meanwhile, few devotees reached the nearby mosques to offer prayers on the auspicious occasion of Eid-Ul-Zuha. Earlier, the district administration of South Andaman allowed movement of devotees from 7 AM to 12 PM. All devotees were seen wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. People are strictly following the norms observing the seriousness of the situation.<br />'' <br />''Yesterday, 78 fresh cases of COVID-19 reported in the islands while 13 patients recovered as well. Now, the tally has reached 548 with 329 active cases. 214 patients have recovered and discharged so far while 5 deaths have been reported. Flights operations between mainland and Port Blair have also been reduced. Now, only a total of 5 flights to Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata are available per week.</span><br />
