Amritsar becomes first district in Punjab to issue ‘Aadhaar’

With the beginning of the process of issuing Unique Identification Number ‘Aadhaar’ in Amritsar on Tuesday, it has become the first district to start this Centre run State supported scheme in Punjab. It will soon be started in every distt. of the state. The process is starting in Jalandhar within this week. Amritsar Deputy Commissioner, Kahan Singh Pannu, who inaugurated the process, informed that the residents of the district would be issued this unique twelve digit identification number (AADHAAR) free of cost. The State Government is opening dedicated enrollment centres for general public at every place in the state. The number will establish unique identity of each individual and will be recognized throughout India. It will enable the residents to receive the benefits of the Government sponsored schemes.
