Ample quantity of fertilizers are available in the country for the kharif season-2011. According to a release of Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, a total of 313.50 lakh tonnes of fertilizers are required for the current kharif season. It said urea, NPK, MOP and SSP are available in ample quantity. It is estimated that about 10 lakh tonnes of phosphatic fertilizers has been additionally pre-positioned for kharif 2011 compared to last year. Availability of fertilizers is being monitored on weekly basis and the position is comfortable except about 20 per cent shortage in availability of DAP and NPK taken together, it said, adding, with expected arrival of imported DAP from first week of June this position is expected to be normal.
