Amnesty International has warned that Bahrain is going through a rapidly worsening human rights crisis. More than 500 people have been detained in the country over the past month. Amnesty said in a statement that Bahrain's allies must take stronger action to address the rapidly worsening human rights crisis in the small but strategic Gulf state. Meanwhile, human rights campaigners say that dozens of doctors have been detained as part of the continuing clamp down following recent anti-government protests in Bahrain. The Bahrainian authorities have denied indiscriminately targeting medics saying in the words of a spokesperson that medical facilities have been overwhelmed by political and sectarian activity. The Red Cross has asked access to all the detainees but so far they have got no answer.
