Trouble mounted for Maharashtra Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse, presently embroiled on twin charges over an illicit land deal and his cellphone appearing in the call records of most-wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim.

BJP chief Amit Shah, in keeping with what the party stresses as its "zero-tolerance for corruption" policy, has asked the Maharashtra branch of the party for a detailed report on the charges against Mr Khadse.

While revenue minister has countered the allegations levelled against him, questions are being raised on why his kin showed that the government valuation of the land was much less than its ready reckoner price.

The 1.21 hectare land in Bhosari, Pune, was purchased by Khadse's wife Mandakini and son-in-law Girish Chaudhary by paying 3.75 crore rupees against the ready reckoner (RR) price of 23 crore rupees.

Though the stamp duty has been paid on the RR price, Index-2 in the registered documents has stated the government valuation as 3.75 crore rupees, assumed to be the actual value while disclosing the assets of the minister. The allegation being made against Khadse is that his kin were trying to get compensation from the MIDC under new Land Acquisition Act, which could have been anywhere between 60 crore rupees to 90 crore rupees.

Meanwhile, AAP demanded Eknath Khadse's removal over the Land Scam issue.

Also, a delegation of the Congress leaders yesterday met the Maharashtra Governor, Vidyasagar Rao and demanded Khadse's resignation over the land deal and his alleged involvement in calls made to gangster Dawood Ibrahim in Pakistan.
