BJP leader Amit Shah and close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the party's new President. He replaces the incumbent Rajnath Singh.
The decision to appoint Shah was taken at a meeting of the party's Parliamentary Board in New Delhi today and the announcement was made by Rajnath Singh.
Mr Singh told reporters that the decision to nominate Shah as the party president was unanimous. He said, Shah was instrumental in the party's landslide victory in the recently held Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh where it won 71 of the total 80 seats.
Major organizational changes will follow in the party as many of its functionaries are Ministers in the Narendra Modi's council of Ministers.
