Amit Shah is new BJP President

BJP General Secretary and a close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah is the new President of the party. The decision was taken by the party's parliamentary board in New Delhi today which was announced by outgoing party president Rajnath Singh.

Mr Singh told reporters after the meeting that the decision to nominate Shah as the party president was unanimous. He said, Shah was instrumental in the party's landslide victory in the recently held Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.

The party had won 71 of the total 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Major organizational changes will follow in the party as many of its functionaries are Ministers in the Narendra Modi's council of Ministers.
