BJP President Amit Shah was on yesterday chargesheeted by Muzaffarnagar police for his alleged hate speeches in April this year during poll meetings of Lok Sabha general elections 2014. Two FIRs were lodged against Shah; one in Nai Mandi Kotwali and another in Kakrauli police stations of Muzaffarngar. The sources said, charge sheet contains grave allegations, which if proved Shah may be convicted even for life imprisonment.
AIR correspondent reports that in April, the two separate FIRs were lodged against the then UP BJP campaign ?chief Amit Shah under section 153 A, 188 and 133 of IPC and section 125 of Representation of People's Act.
Shah later went on to become the chief architect of BJP's unprecedented victory in Uttar Pradesh where it won 71 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats.
Muzaffarnagar and its surrounding districts in western Uttar Pradesh witnessed communal riots last year in which more than 60 people were killed and thousands rendered homeless.
The local police approached the court to file the chargesheet against Amit Shah. The local court will now review the charge-sheet, which outlines the police's alleged evidence against Shah. On Saturday, important by-elections are taking place in the state.
Meanwhile, BJP has said that filing of chargesheet against Amit Shah is a political vendetta by Samajwadi party.
Talking to AIR BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra alleged that Samajwadi party has done it deliberately keeping an eye on bye-elections in Uttar Pradesh.
