Amit Shah chairs 30th meeting of Southern Zonal Council in Kerala

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that the nature of the Zonal Councils has changed in the last eight years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the number of meetings held by the Councils has increased significantly. He said, Mr. Modi has a special attachment to Southern India and various schemes for the upgradation of major ports were started for the development of coastal states after he became Prime Minister in 2014.<br />'' <br />'' The Home Minister Amit Shah was speaking at the 30th Southern Zonal Council meeting in Thiruvananthapuram today. A total of 26 issues were discussed in the 30th Southern Zonal Council meeting in which 9 issues were resolved, 17 issues were reserved for further consideration out of which 9 issues are related to the reorganization of Andhra Pradesh.  The  Home Minister urged Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to mutually resolve their pending issues saying it will not only benefit the people of their States but also lead to all-round development of the entire Southern region.   He also called upon all States of the Southern Zonal Council to explore a joint solution to the issues related to the sharing of waters. Stating that Home Ministry has tried a crackdown on the problem of narcotics Mr. Shah said the States should hold regular meetings of 'the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) and take them to the district level. He said QR-Enabled PVC Aadhar Cards have been given to more than 12 lakh fishermen, which will not only facilitate identification of fishermen from coastal States, but will also strengthen the country's maritime security.  <br />'' <br />'' The Home Minister also urged the member states to work together to take the spirit of patriotism to the grass root level over the next eleven months of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav for the nation's bright future. In the 'Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, citizens of the country rose above their state affiliations, caste, and religion and showed an excellent example of unity and patriotism by hoisting the tricolor at their homes, Mr. Shah said.<br />'' <br />'' Kerala Chief Minister and present Vice Chairman of Southern Zonal Council Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan said the Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been taking a keen interest in maintaining good rapport with all states and doing everything possible to see that relations between different states are smooth. He also opined that the Zonal Councils have a cardinal role in fostering the spirit of cooperative federalism.<br />'' <br />'' The main objectives of the Zonal Council meeting were the amicable settlement of disputes between the Centre and the States and inter-State disputes through mutual agreement and regional cooperation.<br />'' <br />''Besides Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai attended the meeting. Senior ministers from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Lieutenant Governors from  Puducherry and Andaman Nicobar, Lakshadweep administrator, and senior officials of the central and state governments were also among the participants.
