Amit Shah appears as witness before Ahmedabad Sessions court in Naroda Gam riot case

In Gujarat, BJP National President Amit Shah today appeared in Ahmedabad sessions court as a witness in Naroda Gam riot case of 2002. Mr. Shah appeared in the court following summons issued by the Special court on last Tuesday. Mr. Shah was summoned by the court as one of the defence witness of former Gujarat Minister and one of the accused Dr. Maya Kodnani in Naroda Gam riot case. The court summoned him after Maya Kodnani informed the court that Amit Shah was inaccessible.<br/> '<br/>According to sources, BJP President Amit Shah informed the court that former Gujarat Minister Maya Kodnani was not present in Naroda Gam on the day when riots broke out. Mr. Shah also informed that he met Maya Kodnani at Gujarat Assembly on 28th February 2002, a day after Sabarmati Express train was torched at Godhra railway station. Mr. Shah also informed that he went to Sola Civil Hospital as the dead bodies of Godhra train carnage were brought there. He also met Maya Kodnani at Sola Civil Hospital. However, he said he did not know where she had gone in the time between State Assembly to Sola Civil Hospital.<br/> '<br/>AIR Ahmedabad correspondent reports that BJP President Mr. Shah is among the list of 14 defense witnesses summoned by the court. Maya Kodnani wanted to prove her alibi that on the day of the Naroda Gam killings, she was not on the spot. Former Gujarat minister Maya Kodnani is among the 82 accused in Naroda Gam case in which 11 persons were killed. She was already sentenced to life imprisonment in another case of Naroda Patiya massacre in which 97 persons lost their lives.
