Trupti Desai, president of Bhumata Ranragini Brigade has vowed to enter in Haji Ali Durgah today as a part of her movement – Haji Ali Sabke Liye – for equal rights of worship to women. Trupti Desai will launch a march to the Haji Ali Dargah this evening. To avoid any untoward incident, Mumbai police have put barricades and other security measures nearby the Durgah.

Upset with Desai's announcement, Haji Rafat Hussain of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen has opposed it saying that they will not tolerate this as it in an attempt to spoil the environment of Mumbai. A local Shiv Sena leader Haji Ararafat also criticized and opposed her decision.

Noorjahan Safia Niyaz, an activist who is fighting a legal battle for entry of women in Haji Ali Durgah, said that she cannot comment on Trupti Desai's agitation as the matter is sub judice and she is the petitioner in this case.

Desai was the activist who spearheaded the campaign to allow women entry into all places of worship. She led a successful march to the Shani Singapur Temple, Mahalakshmi temple and Triyambkeshwar temple what can be considered as a breakthrough in striving for gender equality.

For the Haji Ali campaign, Desai is not alone. Over 20 outfits, NGOs and human right activists have announced formation of 'Haji Ali Sabke Liye' to peacefully campaign against the ban on entry of women into the interiors of the 15th century Sufi shrine, located on a small island in the Arabian Sea and visited by hundreds of people everyday.
