American banks close to settlement with Fed Govt. to compensate victims of US housing collapse

Some of America's biggest banks are said to be close to a 25 billion dollar settlement with the US Federal Government and most State administrations to compensate victims of the US housing collapse in 2008. The banks are alleged to have tried to repossess homes using documents that were incorrect and in some cases falsified by settling they will avoid civil lawsuits.
