Union Minister for Labour & Employment Bandaru Dattatreya said that amendments would be brought to the existing labour laws in order to check exploitation of the working class. Addressing a meeting organised by the State Commission for Women in Vijayawada, he said, legislation would also be brought in the Parliament soon. The Union Minister said that amendments would be brought to Bonus Act, ESI Act, Child Labour Act, and EPF Act and warned that those who violate the laws would be dealt firmly. <br/><br/>He said that there are 41-lakh domestic sector workers working as servants of which 30 lakh are women. They are being paid low wages and are being exploited. A new legislation will be enacted to check exploitation. He said that the government is going to issue smart cards for all of them to enable them to access financial and health schemes.<br/><br/>Andhra Pradesh Minister for Woman and Child Welfare P. Sujatha regretted that middlemen are taking advantage of ignorant women who are migrating to Gulf countries seeking livelihood and are being constantly exploited. She asked the Union Minister that appropriate measures be taken in that direction also to protect illiterate women.
