The government today introduced a Constitutional Amendment Bill to raise the representation of women in Panchayat bodies from the existing 33 percent to 50 percent at all levels. The Bill which was introduced by the Panchayati Raj Minister Dr. C.P. Joshi in Lok Sabha today says that there is a need to further increase women's participation in Panchayats to empower them and make Panchayat bodies more inclusive institutions. Our correspondent says as the Panchayats play a vital role in the welfare and development for weaker sections of society including women, the Bill will lead to further enhancing their voice in these bodies.<br/><br/>Earlier, a Bill to increase the quota of women in urban local bodies from 33 percent to 50 percent was introduced on Tuesday.<br/>
