Ambika Soni urges media units under her ministry to reach out to people

The Information and Broadcasting Minister Mrs. Ambika Soni has urged the media units under her ministry to reach out to the people and ensure pro-people programmes of the government benefit the target groups. While addressing a review meeting of the regional media heads under her ministry, at Kumarakom near Kottayam today she called upon them to ensure that the government's welfare schemes are identified specifically as centrally sponsored schemes in their campaigns.Mrs. Ambika Soni ruled out the possibility of repealing the Prasar Bharti Act as demanded by some employee unions.She said that Doordharshan's role is not to compete with the private channels, but to give people an alternate option of entertainment and information. She said, Doordarshan's news and programme sections should try to create a road map which is different from the private channels.
