Ambika favours ‘reasonable’ check on web content

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni has said the Government does not want censorship over website content. Speaking to a Private Channel, Mrs. Soni, however, justified the need for some sort of a mechanism for reasonable restriction on web content.

She said, some content is found to be inflammatory and sometimes certain steps are needed to maintain the unity and integrity of the country within such diversities.

On objectionable cartoons in text books, Mrs. Soni said some cartoons had a political agenda. She also saidthe situation in the country had changed in the past 60 years. Many people, including children, may misinterpret such cartoons.
