Amano takes over as new head of IAEA

Japanese diplomat, Yukiya Amano has taken over as the new head of the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency. He took over from Egyptian diplomat Mohamed ElBaradei, who retired yesterday after 12 years in the job. The 62-year-old director general is an arms control expert. Mr Amano served as Japan's ambassador to the IAEA from August 2005 until his selection as director general in July 2009.
