The IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano has call upon Iran to reconsider its decision of requesting the Agency to withdraw the designation of 38 inspectors. According to a statement of UN, speaking on the Implementation of Safeguards in Iran during Board of Governors meeting in Vienna today he said that the cooperation needed from Iran includes, among other things, implementation of relevant resolutions of the IAEA Board of Governors and the United Nations Security Council, implementation of the Additional Protocol as well as the clarification of issues related to possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear programme.Regretting on Iran’s decision to object to the designation of two inspectors who recently conducted inspections in Iran, he expressed the confidence in the professionalism and impartiality of the inspectors concerned. He added that while the Agency continues to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran, Iran has not provided the necessary cooperation to permit the Agency to confirm that all nuclear material in Iran is in peaceful activities. IAEA Director General today opened 35-member IAEA Board which is expected to address a range of nuclear issues including nuclear safety and security, technical cooperation, nuclear applications, verification of nuclear non-proliferation as well as the Agency’s programme and budget.
