Altercation leaves arrests of 21 persons in Lakshadweep

In Lakshadweep, police arrested 21 persons following an altercation that left nearly 130 tourists stranded for a few hours in Kalpeni island. The tourists were prevented from boarding a boat to reach their passenger vessel following the altercation with the locals last Saturday. Three officials of the Lakshadweep Administration have been placed under suspension in this connection. Those suspended include a Sub Divisional Officer, a Sub Inspector and a Port Assistant. The arrested persons were produced before the Amini Munsif Court and were remanded. The tourists have since returned to Kochi. The altercation was over the issue of group tickets provided to tourists. The Lakshadweep Administration has decided to issue individual tickets to tourists from tomorrow.
