Alpha Conde wins Guinea presidential election

In Guinea, Alpha Conde has won the presidential election. The National Independent Electoral Commission said in Conakry of Guinea that the preliminary results show Conde received 53.5 per cent of the 2.89 million ballots cast and his opponent, Cellou Dalein Diallo, got 47.5 per cent of the votes. A total of 4.2 million citizens had registered to vote.Guinea's capital was swept by ethnic riots on Monday ahead of the announcement of the result. Supporters Cellou Dalein Diallo who are overwhelmingly from the Peul ethnic group, took to the streets after it became clear that Conde was likely to win the vote. Reports said, they destroyed the homes of Malinke residents, who are backing Conde, a Malinke.
