India has emphasized the need for the UN to allocate more resources for responding to the emergencies. This comes as the world body on Wednesday adopted a budget of 5.4 billion dollars for the next two years.<br/><br/>Expressing satisfaction over the passage of the budget, India's Ambassador to the UN, Mr. Asoke Mukerji reiterated, adequate resources should be allocated for fulfilling the mandate generated by the collective membership. The UN should allocate and respond to emergencies like Ebola and also the humanitarian and natural disasters, said Mr. Mukerji, in his remarks at the General Assembly in New York after the adoption of budget. He also pointed out the need for the world body to speed up the long-pending UN Security Council reform process. Retiring this month, Mukerji will be succeeded by former External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin.<br/><br/>Commenting on the budget, UN chief Ban Ki- Moon said , Funding continues to shrink while demands on the United Nations grow. The budget for the 2016-2017 biennium is slightly lower than the funds allocated during 2014-2015.
