Allegations against CBI chief serious: SC

Supreme court today asked CBI director Ranjit Sinha to file his response on the allegations leveled against him in an application within a week.

The Court today said that averments against CBI director that representatives of companies involved in the 2G spectrum allocation scams, were meeting him at his Delhi residence as shown in his visitors’ logbook, are very serious.

A Bench led by Justice H L Dattu rejected Sinha’s argument that filing an affidavit would mean disclosing crucial facts relating to 2G spectrum probe.

The court also said, if we find merit in the averments made against the CBI director then we would quash all the decisions taken by him during the pendency of the case.

Later, the CBI director agreed to file affidavit in a sealed envelope. Sinha asked the Court to tell the petitioner NGO's lawyer, Prashant Bhushan to declare the source from which he got all the documents.

Meanwhile, advocate Prashant Bhushan also submitted in the court the original entry register of Sinha’s residence, claiming two unidentified persons delivered it at his house, a day ago.

Sinha has been in the midst of a controversy over leaked documents that showed details of visitors, including representatives of companies involved in the 2G telecom spectrum and coal block allocation scams, meeting him at his residence.

The court has fixed the case for further hearing on September 15.
