A series of lectures are being organised in the Nobel Laureate Science Conclave organised by the Indian Institute of Information Technology in Allahabad. Lectures and talks on issues of smart crop to cancer treatment were presented and discussed with participating students. More than forty scientists of national and international repute are taking part in the science conclave. Our correspondent Reports that Indian and Russian scientists are working together to develop ‘Smart Crops’. This cross border collaboration between the two countries may be able to develop smart crops which could not only be resistant to most aggressive of pests but would even be available to withstand water shortage and tackle pests on its own. Russian scientist Prof Alexander Gopaneko said the in view of the growing population genetically engineered crops are a good solution for India and the world.Prof Joseph Sifakis, from, France talked about evolution of computer science. He said in 1950 the price of 1MB of memory was about equal to buying a house, and now the price of 1MB of memory is about 1 page of a notebook. He also discussed embedded systems used in daily life and system design. He said that each person uses about 250 chips each day.Russian scientist from Moscow State University, Dr Alexei, underlined the importance of nanotechnology .He expressed the hope that one day a drop of nano medicine will cure cancer and other dreaded diseasesProf. Helmut Neunzert from the Institute for Industrial Mathematics, Germany spoke about the New Role of Mathematics.He showed the audience papers of IIT-JEE and GATE entrance examinations in India and confessed that the mathematics papers were so difficult that a German student would not have been able to solve it, but also mentioned that these were not really useful. He called upon Indian students to opt for maths as a subject rather than Computer Science and Information technology only.
