The Allahabad High Court has stayed the commencement of elections for the Banaras Hindu University Student's Council. The court has struck down ordinances containing provisions which enabled the Vice-Chancellor and some other faculty members of the university to hold key posts in the Student's Council. Passing the order, Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi directed the University to proceed to frame ordinances only in accordance with the directions given by the Supreme Court.
