The Allahabad High Court today ordered the arrest of Kapil Dev, who is principal secretary of Uttar Pradesh Public works department. The official was, however, released later after he submitted a written apology to the court. The single judge bench of justice D P Singh ordered the arrest for the official's non-compliance with the court order on revised pay structure of 83 stenographers in PWD. The case was first filed by some of stenographers in 1994 and court given verdict in favour of them but the state government given this benefit to petitioners only again in 2004 some of stenographers file petition against state government partial implementation and asking for uniform pay structure for PWD stenographers. Court has asked the Principal Secretary to be present personally on 17th December for next hearing .Court has also issued notice to Law secretary of UP Government.<br/><br/>The UP government had approached to Supreme Court in 1994 case but the apex court upheld the HC Judgment in favour of the stenographers. But the PWD gave the benefit to the petitioners only and again in 2004 one Mr. MK Sharma and 14 others filed a petition in the High court.<br/><br/>High court asked the department to give benefit to all the 83 employees. Even though the new grade was given to these new batches of petitioners, this year but the department neither give arrears to them nor the higher pay to other non-petitioner employees.
