The Allahabad High Court asked Uttar Pradesh government to issue a notification banning the use of polythene in the vicinity of the river Ganga.Expressing concerned over alarming pollution level in the Ganges a Division Bench of the court comprising Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice Arun Tandon asked the government to file an affidavit, appraising the court of the compliance of the order, on 25th of this month. The court passed this order while hearing a Public Interest Litigation which drew the court's attention to the pollution in the Ganges which has been declared as the national river by the central government.The court also expressed dissatisfaction over the various measures adopted by the state government to control pollution in the river.
