Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh has said it has been decided in principal that all villages of the country having a specified population would be connected by road under Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojna, PMGSY.
The required fund would be provided under the scheme on receipt of a proposal for new roads from the state government.
While laying foundation of a 50 new roads at naxal infested Jamui district of the state, Mr. Ramesh emphasized on need to ensure quality while undertaking construction work.
He said funds for maintenance of the roads built under PMGSY yojna would be provided for five years. After expiry of the period the maintenance would be responsibility of the state government.
Expressing that there was need to tackle naxalism through development the Minister said both centre and state governments would effectively join hands against the red terror.
