All villages to be connected through mobiles by 2020

All villages in the country will be connected with mobile phone services in ten years from now. Replying to queries in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot admitted that the tele-density in rural areas is still much less than in urban areas and the government’s endeavour is to bridge the gap as fast as possible. <br/>The minister said that by March next year, ten thousand mobile towers and by 2011, fifteen thousand such towers will be in place. Sharing the concern of the members, on the inconvenience caused to the people in Jammu and Kashmir due to banning of pre-paid mobile connections, Mr. Pilot said that the government had to take such steps because the large-scale misuse of the facility. <br/>He, however, assured the house that the telecommunication services in the state will be further strengthened and more towers will be put in the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He said that the government also plans to provide connectivity in the remote areas through satellites. <br/>
