All set for introduction, smooth passage of Women Reservation Bill in Parliament

All is set for the introduction and smooth passage of the Women Reservation Bill in Parliament, with the Bill garnering wide political support. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal told reporters that the government is determined to go ahead with the Bill. He said, with the backing of the Congress, the BJP and the Left parties, it will not face any problem in both houses of Parliament. The Bill is to be introduced in the Rajyasabha on Monday. The ruling Congress and main Opposition – BJP have issued whips to their MPs to be present in the House when the Women's Reservation Bill is taken up. The Women's Reservation Bill seeks to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The BJP has called the Bill a long standing commitment of the entire polity. BJP leader Arun Jaitley said a whip has been issued to the party MPs to ensure their presence when the Bill is presented in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.<br/><br/> RJD leader Laloo Prasad Yadav has urged the Prime Minister to call an all party meeting to discuss the issue of women reservation. He also said that any forward movement on the Bill should be made only after the meeting.
