Water Resources Minister Salman Khurshid has said that all possible precautions will be taken to prevent the threat of flood in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh due to erosion in eastern barrage of the Kosi river. While inaugurating the 15th meeting of Ganga Flood Control Board in New Delhi on Wednesday he said India is in constant touch with Nepal to formulate agreements on several water related issues. The Minister said that political instability in Nepal in the past few years has been an impediment in formulating agreements on several water- related issues, including reconstruction of breached Kosi embankment. Mr. Khurshid also emphasised the need for flood plain zoning and said that encroachment of these zones has to be stopped. He said reversing the encroachment of flood plains are not possible now and the government will try to provide basic facilities to the habitats of these areas. He said that there is a need for fine-tuning of the plans for the 23 river basins of River Ganga.
