All political parties, except SP agree to pass Lokpal, Lokayuktas Bill: Kamalnath

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath has said that all political parties, except Samajwadi Party, have agreed to pass the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill under all circumstances on Tuesday.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Monday, Kamal Nath said the political parties which attended the meeting will appeal to the Samajawadi Party to join in the passing the bill and not obstruct the proceedings in the House.

The all-party meeting was convened by Rajya Sabha Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari. Bahujan Samaj Party also skipped the meeting.

AIR Correspondent reports that the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill, 2011 is pending before the Rajya Sabha after incorporating recommendations by its Select Committee. The bill, tabled in the Upper House by Minister of State for Personnel, V Narayanasamy on Friday, could not be discussed as SP members stalled the proceedings.

They have been demanding a discussion on the rising prices of essential commodities.
