All political appointees including Governors should resign voluntarily, says Venkaiah Naidu

Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu has on the issue of removal of Governors said that all political appointees should resign voluntarily.

Naidu accused Congress, which had flayed NDA's move, for adopting double standard politics and maintained that political appointments must go with the political establishment.

Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar said in Kochi that the BJP-led NDA government will follow the Constitution on change of state Governors, but Governors and other political appointees should follow their conscience.

Responding to media reports over the Centre seeking the resignation of some state governors appointed by the previous Congress led UPA governemnt, Javadekar said we have not sought resignation of state Governors. When pointed that asking Governors to resign was against a Supreme Court ruling of 2010, he said no Supreme Court decision has stopped anyone from resigning.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has said some people may resign voluntarily and some may complete their tenure. He said Governors can be removed by proven misconduct only.
