All-party meeting to tackle Naxal violence underway at PM’s residence

All-party meeting to chalk out a strategy to deal with the Naxal violence is underway at the Prime Minister's residence in New Delhi.

The meeting is taking place after killing of 30 people by naxals in an attack on a Congress rally last month in Chattisgarh.

Dr. Manmohan Singh had proposed the meeting at the Chief Ministers' Conference on internal security in New Delhi last week.

Dr Singh wanted the government's two-pronged anti-Maoist strategy of sustained operations and addressing development issues to be strengthened.

He had also asked the states and the Centre to join hands to tackle the problems of internal security.

Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde is scheduled to address the meet.

Meanwhile, Tribal Affairs minister V. Kishore Chandra Deo expressed hope that some solution on addressing the naxal issue will emerge in the All party meet.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi Deo said the coming together of politial parties have given the right indication towards addressing the concerns of Tribals.

He said, the development path is the way forward and the Naxal menace cannot be seen only as a law and order problem.

Deo was speaking after launching the new website of his ministry and release of a brochure on UPA-2 achievements on socio-economic development of Scheduled Tribes and Forest Dwellers.

He said, the UPA government had taken several land mark measures, policy and legal initiatives to empower the Tribal population.
