The all-party meeting on Telangana on Tuesday made an earnest appeal for maintaining peace,harmony and law and order in Andhra Pradesh. The leaders of the eight parties represented at the meeting made the appeal in a joint statement issued after the four hour long meeting convened by the Home Minister Mr P Chidambaram in New Delhi on Tuesday.Earlier, Mr Chidambaram said each of the political parties represented at the meeting has the responsibility to resolve their differences and find appropriate solution to the issue and asked them to show accomodation and goodwill . In his opening remarks at the meeting Mr Chidambaram said that normalcy must be restored in Andhra Pradesh and the agitations and bandhs should be halted to maintain law and order. He said that it is in the interest of all sections of the people in the state that peace and harmony prevails while the consultations are taking place. He also said that the children must go to schools and colleges and people must be allowed to carry on their normal day to day activities. He cautioned all political parties against anti-democratic forces who would only be if answers are not found on the issue. He said that these forces should not be given any room to gain strength or credence. AIR correspondent says that the agenda of the meeting is to deliberate on the mechanism and lay down a road map for consultations on the issue.Later speaking to media Mr Rama Krishna Naidu of TDP said the meeting was not fruitful but his party was not opposed to evolving a mechanism for consultation. TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao told reporters that no decision was taken at the meeting and they are waiting for the final response. Mr Dattaraye of BJP said they were not satisfied with the meeting but reiterated their stand in favour of bifurcation of the state for better administration. The AIMIM leader Asauddin Owaisi said that normalcy should be restored in the state and even demanded President rule to be imposed in Andhra Pradesh. Mr Chiranjeevi of the Praja Rajyam said while his party was not fully satisfiied with the meeting, he suggested the setting up of a committee comprising representatives of all sections of socieity. He also repeated the party's stand for a united Andhra Pradesh for better development. Mr K.S. Rao of the Congress was in favour of evolving a mechanism for consultations and a roadmap to be drawn for the purpose.The Home Minister said that he will apprise the Prime Minister of the views expressed by the committee and get back within a reasonable time. The representatives of the eight registered political parties, from Andhra Pradesh Congress, PDP, BJP, TRS, Praja Rajayam, CPI(M), CPI and MIM are participating in the discussions on the issue. AIR correspondent says that even as the consultations were going on inside, there was high drama outside the North Block where the Home Ministry is located. Supporters of pro-Telengana and those favouring United Andhra Pradesh shouted slogans in favour of their respective demands. Later, many of them were taken away by the police.
