Political parties agree to bring Land Acquisition Bill in second half of Parliament's Budget session beginning on Monday.Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Minister Kamal Nath and BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said the political parties have reached a broad consensus on the Land Acquisition Bill. The consensus was reached in an all party meeting convened by the government to evolve a consensus on the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill 2011 in New Delhi today.
The Bill seeks to address problems of industry regarding Acquistion of Land for setting of projects. The Bill also provides for Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Settlement of displaced people and proposes to replace the Land Acquisition Act, 1894. The first all party meet on the issue on the 9th of this month failed to iron out differences between the government and BJP, Samajwadi Party and the Left Front.
