An all-party delegation will visit the violence affected Kokrajhar district of Assam today. Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar district said authorities would relax curfew in the district from 8 AM to 12 noon. But indefinite curfew will be continued in some parts of Dhubri and Chirang districts.
Death toll has gone up to 32 in the ongoing violence in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of Assam.
The Army and Para military forces have intensified patrolling in the violence hit districts. Train services have been disrupted between New Bongaigaon and Alipurduwar. Thousands of passengers are stranded as North East Frontier Railway cancelled 11 long distance trains on Tuesday and rescheduled several others.
Railway Minister Mukul Roy has urged Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to provide security assistance to ensure safe movement of trains in the violence hit areas.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday took stock of the situation in Assam following ethnic clashes. A PMO spokesperson that the Prime Minister has asked Assam Chief Minister to do everything possible to control the situation and take effective steps for relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.
Home Secretary RK Singh assured all help to the Assam Government in maintaining law and order in the state.
